#1362| What we do while waiting for the bus, otherwise known as PLS BUCK UP TONG TAR.

For some reason my cat legitimately believes we cant see her if she hides under our clothes. Retard. Also, I took forever to pack my luggage because she kept hopping in. I dont know what is up with her obsession with getting all (what she thinks is) ninja like one moment and then going all IN YOUR FACE the next. But anyway, yes, i did say luggage- I’m hopping off to Bangkok tomorrow with sexylexy, cinch and han because that is how you do recess week. (Y)

On a somewhat related note, Sony Singapore x Waggener Edstrom couriered over their NEX-F3 camera to me so I wouldnt have to lug around my DSLR on the trip- incredibly thoughtful and generous of them i am thinking. The cherry on top was the moment where i sleepily signed for the package in my PJs (they couriered it to NTU again!) and i realized they’d sent it over in pink. So very considerate.

Love how Sony x Waggener always personalizes their blogger/digital influencer relationships, rather than just sending off products from a faceless organization.

Anyway, I’ve christened the nex-f3 the Lady, because it 1. looks good and 2. is honestly a girl’s camera. I mean, ok it comes in black and white too, but the 180 degrees flip screen is something that girls will just go crazy over.

You see what i mean. It’s like photobooth, but high quality. Im using it with the 18-55 lens, which is the same one my own DSLR is on.

Ok anyway since it’s so light i’ve been toting it everywhere and just snapping away with it, so I proudly present to you: photoset LADY x WHAT SCHOOL LIFE IS LIKE RE: WAITING FOR THE IRREGULAR BUS C.

Yep. A combination of too much HL2024, Friday afternoon, and general bus-company directed angst. If you look carefully, you can see other students who were also waiting for the bus directing mad weird stares our way. But those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music and all that. Your daily dose of Nietzsche, thank you and welcome.

In other news, I also celebrated Edwin’s twenty third, surprise part ii, with Candice, Amanda and Martin today around the suntec/cityhall area. This one really warrants a full blogpost all on its own, which i promise to do when i get back from the land of smiles, sawadeeka, and thai milk tea, but till then:

Seriously, Eds. That’ll teach you to say you don’t like cats. Happy twenty third!

And to the rest of you- goodbye! I’m going to shop myself silly, and I’m intending to take a real break so I’m not even bringing my macbook (I dont remember the last time i went on a holiday without my macbook, goodness) and work will simply just have to wait. This is going to be sweet.

#1347| inCider information

A series of busy days string along into weeks and it is always the most lovely to return home to a cat who likes to snuggle. Ladies and gentlemen i present to you the reason i like to hermit around in my room instead of enjoying the great (and too hot) outdoors.

Other things in my life going on right now besides having prolonged conversations with my cat:

Learning the hard way that people dont take you seriously when you call dibs on a bag, and that fighting tooth, claw and nail is the only way to really get what you want.

a.k.a. Andrea, Joyce and I attended the Carlo Rino Fall/ Winter 12 Collection Digital Influencers Preview event this morning- a full post on that upcoming but essentially it means a lot of pretty bags and an image overhaul for the brand. It was hosted by the girls from ACCESS communications, and it was really well done, so bagus to them!

After that i had about three hours to burn before my next meeting so i went back to my favorite place in town to curl up with a book: Parlour by Ashley Isham, once again the only customer for hours due to its quiet tucked away corner.

At about four i met Amanda, Josh and Lucy (our newly elected publicity and publications directors) for a working discussion on the year’s direction amongst other things. No moment happier, really, when things start really taking off and blooming. Whether due to spurts of fatalistic tendencies or an irrational need to jump ahead of myself, i find myself thinking about the end of college life, graduation, the long, long stretch into endless working life yawning ahead of me,.. and the scarcity of my time left as a student horrifies and excites me in a grotesque blend, although surely there are three years left and my concerns are not immediate. But of course they say in three years a lot could happen.

#1321| Come take a walk with me.

Currently listening to:NOTHING I’m damn tired

Hi Guys,

So today i want to introduce you all to the place i work at. I’m actually really proud of it because 1. its insanely pretty for a office district and 2. its on the green line, dammit. I hate transferring trains.

Also feel like it would be appropriate to insert a disclaimer here that I’m completely pooped from an extremely long day so I’m relatively incoherent, do forgive.

All photo taken with the Alphamale– Sony’s a77. I took it out on a walk today during lunch hour.

Somehow, cab drivers always mistake this for the one on Orchard road. This is down Telok Ayer Street, and i sit in the Pekin office tapping away and bleeding words for hours on end.

Today, Mavis and I decided to hunt for food at our local farmer’s produce instead of going to a conventional cafe. Yes i meant Cold Storage.

I’m sorry, but what is this?!?! How amazing is this, guys???? Am i the only one seeing this for the first time??? Starbucks in a TAKEAWAY CUP IN COLD STORAGE??????

We didnt get that, though. We did get, however, yoghurt and some salmon cheese spread!

A bookstore which they… ok, i have no idea what they are doing to it WHY are there newspapers plastered all over the chairs???? It looks gorgeous though- i might come back to check it out soon.

Informative sign boards on the way back to the office. Yes, it’s a rockin crowd in these parts.

The Spinellis and Subway right below my office. Not pictured: Quiznos and a gazillion other cafes and bars peppered around the area.

It’s like living in a little bubble. You have 1. A coffee place 2. A food place 3. A toilet and seriously you don’t ever have to leave the bubble during working hours because theres nothing you lack.

It’s also very pretty. Which i think is a ploy, to visually appease you when you’re pissed off at doing four consecutive days of overtime or something like that.

above: 1. quick fix with jacobs crackers and salmon spread 2. sexy intern in the house

IMPRESSIVE RIGHT. Not the intern i mean, the entire area. Okay, fine, Mavis too. But mostly the entire working area. It’s really gorgeous, and picturesque, and i know this is true because we’re forever getting bombarded by tourists with their maps and huge cameras taking up our lunch seats and pointing at us going ‘look! asians!’ Okay, maybe not the last one. But you know when an office area is a tourist attraction.. its a pretty good district.

Besides my office, i’ve also been taking photos of Athena compulsively..

Is she not the most perfect being you have ever seen or what. Okay, easy now, enough, don’t get your drool all over your computer screen.

Other drool worthy things i have also been shooting include this:

and this:

Changi Airport’s Terminal 1 media launch event which i attended tonight, spent gazing at pretty kinetic structures and chasing kids for photos. It’s also a story that deserves its own post and not one paragraph tagged after almost like an afterthought, so till next time.

Thank you Sony + Waggener Edstrom Singapore for the a77, all the people eyeballing the alpha hanging off my hips are instantly giving me +10 street cred, and i promise not to drop it!

#1312| Getting all the ladies

Currently listening to:The Golden Age by The Asteroids
Status:Need.. More.. Mentos..

Hi Guys,

I saw this online and i just had to share it:

The proof that we are soulmates from Emanuele Colombo on Vimeo.

Slightly sexist, but how adorable is this? I now need to learn graphic design /animation because it obviously gets all the ladies. It’s right up there in my to-do list right alongside learning to drive, mastering oil paints, getting a skydiving cert, and all the other cool things i will never do.

In other news, I’ve been listening to a mixtape a friend sent over, and this song is completely stuck in my head.

An original composition, such a delicious voice, i have no idea why it only has 80k views on youtube when random videos of cats get like twenty two million views. No, this is not me being jealous that people like my cat more than they like me. Stop it, you.

Anyway. Lest you guys think i do nothing but sit at my computer the entire day watching youtube videos (i dont) (really) (sometimes i visit the toilet too), here’s a video courtesy of Syaf of last night. By virtue of 1. my insane schedule and 2. living in NTU during term time, I hardly see my old friends. Still, i had a great time at Su’s place last night celebrating Ra4dy’s birthday. Happy 20th, bro.

Syaf really does have an eye for these things.

We also planned to get ice cream after work today, escaping from the ridiculous weather in licks and drips. The plan was to hang out in town with frozen treats but no, XQ and Rady decided they’d really rather see my cat. Okay, then..

Ah, and lastly.
I completed Tender is the Night by F.Scott Fitzgerald last night on the train, it took me an abnormally long time to finish this one- I started it last thursday, but then there was the senior’s camp over the weekend.. excuses. The book is written beautifully, but it’s a little dark, and it’s not light reading so i wanted to really process it and some days i was just too tired to read more than a few pages. In any case, F.Scott writes so well, but lines like ‘her body calculated to a millimeter to suggest a bud yet guarantee a flower’ really makes me wonder just how much time Fitzgerald spent staring at young girls creepily, and if he were friends with a certain Humbert Humbert.

And for what I’m currently reading..
I walked into the office early on monday morning only to see this waiting for me on my desk. Only in advertising, you know. Only in advertising.

So yes, that’s what I’m reading now. Needless to say it drew me very strange stares on the train to work this morning. But hey- it also means i, and by proxy, you guys, get all these nuggets of information that I wouldnt know otherwise! Did you know that A&F started out as a Fishing gear retailer before it got all sexed up? No? Now you know.

#1308| The Socialite Camera (and yes, win yourself one.)

Currently listening to:we found love by coldplay

Hi guys!

Boy, do we have a lot to talk about. A whole bunch of stuff has happened over the past few days. But before that:

Sick of me posting up examples of great advertisements and campaigns yet? Maybe you’d rather be a banker or doctor or lawyer and honestly don’t want to see any more advertising campaigns? Well, too bad. By nature of my job i see them everyday and they’re too amazing not to share.

Another awesome ad campaign sent out via round robin email in the office.

Highlights from the Cannes Lions 2012: Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell’s “Invisible Drive”, an entry for the Cannes Lions Environmental Design, Exhibition and Live Events category. So amazing.

And effective, too:

The YouTube video was watched more than 10m times. It received 60,000 ‘likes’, 14,000 comments and 21,000 users selected it as their favourite. Our documentary was ranked as no.1 in the ‘Viral-Video-Charts’, beating superstars such as ‘Akon’ and ‘Pitbull’. During the campaign the search terms ‘F-Cell’ and ‘Invisible Mercedes’ enjoyed a disproportionate increase. Several international newspapers, TV and radio stations spread our story. However, not only them: our target audience turned into brand ambassadors, too. Overall, the campaign gained over 450m media impressions around the globe, helping to increase the awareness of Mercedes-Benz F-Cell technology by 43%.

– Excerpt from the Cannes Lions website

For those of you who don’t know, the Cannes Lions is the world’s biggest annual awards show and festival for professionals in the creative communications industry. Christel is currently in the land of longchamps now for the festival too! Somehow i need to get my ass there within the next three to five years… i might spontaneously combust just looking at all the ads i wish i’d crafted though.

Besides that.. I have also rediscovered my extreme lack of will and determination in my money saving plan. In other words, nothing new.

I do not need a new bag, I told myself. I do not need a new bag i do not need a new bag… I bought three pairs of Steve Maddens.

Gorgeous, aren’t they? I know, i know. I should be contrite with guilt. But there’s no point lying, because i’m really not. Im actually really pleased with myself.

Many thanks to Bex who helped me get a discount on the shoes!!! For the rest of you, the Robinsons Expo sale is ongoing till Sunday 🙂 I went back and got another two pairs of shoes yesterday, one dark brown leather ankle bootie heel from the UK and another pair of patent cream flats that look a little bit like XiaoQi’s Tory Burches except they do not cost 900 dollars.

The black glitter stilettos from madden pictured above are a bitch to wear though. I wore them today and though the sole was incredibly comfortable, I’d forgotten to account for the glitter edges which were rough and pretty much sliced my ankles bloody. I ended up making off with Pearlyn(my colleague)’s slippers after work because my ankles were gory, like horror movie SAW-worthy gory.

Are you relatively frustrated at the lack of How To Win A Camera As Per PROMISED From Your Blogpost Title yet?

Sorry guys, I’m being deliberately annoying. The thing is, Sony just passed me their new Cybershot WX100 camera to play with earlier this week. (Rather, I got it from Waggener Edstrom, their PR firm) I googled it and i came across this description which i thought suited the camera perfectly: the Socialite camera

Look at how tiny it is! It’s smaller than my phone!

There are DSLRs, and then there are Semipros, and then there are compact cameras. When i was making my decision last January on which camera to buy, the reason why i bypassed the semipro stage and went straight to my DSLR from the fujitsu compact i was using at the time was because i thought i would end up with a dslr anyway and it didnt make sense to splurge 6 or 700 dollars on a semipro and lust after a dslr for two years before upgrading it. Also, semipros are kind of big. At least the one i had my eye on, the Olympus PEN, is.

Well I’ve never regretted it, and I’m still wildly in love with my DSLR, but the one thing i’m not so hot on is the bulkiness of the entire package. It kind of restricts the bags i carry to large totes, which i do like, except i buy all these evening clutches and they just sit around sadly in a corner with noone using them.

The Sony Socialite aims to remedy that- its currently the smallest and apparently the best on the market of its genre, very ‘handbag sized’ as evinced by the photo above.

As a side note, i’m very taken by the words ‘handbag sized’ these days. Like, a ‘handbag sized’ novel i can pop into my clutch and read on the train to work.

I brought it out last night and today, so here are some photos for your perusal. Obviously not DSLR quality, but rather decent for a compact i think.

Dad’s birthday dinner at Sushi Tei
Happy birthday Daddy! 🙂

See, there’s this background defocus mode which imitates the effect given by prime lenses on the DSLR.

Anyone hitting sushi tei anytime soon should definitely try their black sesame ice cream. it’s awesome. And also, nostalgia in the form of frozen strawberries, the kind they used to have at Mosburger!

Also, a meeting this afternoon on this exciting but not very difficult to guess project Andrea and I are working on. We headed to Food For Thought- i’ve never been there, and i am VERY IMPRESSED by the wild berry pancakes that i ordered. I can’t say the same for Andrea- all she ate was fungi ie. her side dish of mushrooms.

Looks good, doesn’t it. You know what else looks good?

The Ridiculously Photogenic Andrea.

And the not so photogenic me. Here I’m demonstrating the (also amazing) camera on the nokia lumia 900, which i will do a review on (really) soon (i promise).

Who we had our meeting with. Have you guessed what our project is yet? I’m leaving it at that for now because there is nothing more annoying than someone who starts but doesn’t finish a thought.

We’re testing out the ‘smile shutter’ function on the Socialite- i know, I’m “late to the party” as Miko so elegantly put it. The smile shutter function has been around for awhile, on Sony cameras. I LOVE THIS SMILE SHUTTER FUNCTION. Let me explain.

For non sony users, the smile shutter is a function that basically triggers a shot on the premise of a smile. You don’t have to press any buttons, just grin at the camera and the shot fires. This is particularly useful for group shots- can you imagine? Instead of rushing to fit everyone in the frame before the timer goes off, just tell everyone to frown until you’re picture ready then all smile at once!

The image of this happening in my head is just cracking me up, i tell you.

But what i really like about this, is the smile meter that pops up. When you frown (see above, pic 1), the smile meter drops all the way to a zero. It’s hilarious. Okay, only i found it hilarious. But it’s pretty funny, i think.

Also, the camera picture quality is conspicuously better in the daytime, as with most cameras. Here, a shot of the people i work with in indoor lighting

Miko and Fanaa

I was gushing about the smile shutter function to one of my clients during this meeting we had earlier on (insert miko’s late to the party comment here) and these were some of the shots the camera fired while on smile shutter mode.

if you want this camera but are a broke and struggling student like me, Sony is giving away the Socialite via two competitions:

1. the #moreinless twitter contest

what you need:
a. a twitter account
b. stellar secondary one english paper two summary skills

You need to justify why you deserve to walk away with the Cyber-shot WX100 in as few characters as possible via Twitter. It’s a concept that is really relevant to their product, because they’re trying to show how less is more. I would probably like this contest more if i weren’t so bemused by the fact that i actually did propose something like this to another client (different industry though) of mine, but it’s still pending and if we do it now everyone’s going to think we copied Sony. Maybe next time..

The contest is ongoing, from now till July 2nd. They’re giving away one camera per week, so go try your luck!

2. More Zoom in Less Room contest- Guess and Win

what you need
a. LEGENDARY Draw Something-esque skills

Sony’s releasing five zoomed in pictures each week, and you have to guess what the original picture is of. Four cameras are up for grabs in the contest which spans over four weeks, and the first contestant to correctly submit all five entries each week will win a Cyber-shot WX100.

The contest is only starting on the 10th of July, and runs for approx a month till 6th August. You can access the competition here on the 10th, but meanwhile it’s a pretty sick microsite detailing different aspects of the camera which makes me wish i were a web designer.

That’s a total of 7-8 cameras Sony’s giving out over this and next month, so do go try your luck! It’s really a sweet camera- though it’s early days yet, given how i just got it. Really great timing though, i was dreading lugging the dslr around for Seniors camp and this year’s Freshman Orientation Camp. (I’m a senior attached to the Klaus OG, SIGN UP NOW)

Oooh, and one last thing. It looks like Twitter is down, and for the first time the fail whale isn’t anywhere to be seen! It is also probably a statement on how exciting all our lives are that this absence of a fail whale is capable of producing this much buzz in our lives.

PS. (Yes I’m well aware that my post is rather incoherent today but give the girl a break, i’ve been working late nights and my ankles are bleeding. that didnt make sense either, did it? See what i mean.)
