Somewhere along the drive along New Zealand’s Otago Coast you have a series of queer looking rocks that look as though an ancient dinosaur laid eggs and promptly proceeded to forget all about them, leaving them to fossilise into what they are today. That’s what the Moeraki Boulders are, a testament to the fact that nearly anything can be a tourist attraction these days, strangely shaped boulders included.

Still, I have to say, after endless snowcapped mountains and deep blue expanses, the sight of a beach is surely more than welcome. Standing on sandy shores with salty air whipping about you – dead cold – is an interesting experience, especially when so much of what we know of the beach consists hot, tanned skin.

And truth be told, those boulders are a weird sight.
