Pretty hectic
but even as it phases into recess week, marking half a semester gone by and realizing that the insanity that was my epiphany ie. coming to university to chill and relax woohoo was in fact, untrue

im having fun
i really am.

i attribute this in part to my love for literature, in part to the interesting people here, and in part to the fact that there’s no math or economics or equations or any sort within a ten mile radius, i feel like if i could travel back in time i would tell the Pre-As jem that YES IT DOES GET BETTER you can disown/break up with/disassociate yourself with the terror that is 3D vectors.

anyway recently:

last saturday i went raya raya-ing with part of the SNBs. Feel like i’ve gotten some sort of a cultural power up etc etc, MY FIRST EVER RAYA VISITATIONS!!!!!!!! (insert appropriate amount of exclamation marks here)

and last night, my belated birthday dinner with the beloved @ladyxtel

We went to Taste Paradise at ION sky on Brad’s recommendation only to find out that they didnt serve dim sum at night.. oh well.

getting there was terrible
i was all pleased with myself/ got out of the room on time/ read and completed Waiting for Godot and Pudd’nhead Wilson on the train/ had a pretty good playlist on the ipod/ thought to myself THIS IS TOTALLY MY DAY EVERYTHING IS GOING GREAT/ got off the train, walked around vivo trying to figure out how to get to this elusive level four,

realized i was not at ION.

it was mortifying and i ended up an hour late.
sorry xtel.
it was mortifying.

What i wouldnt do for a namecard like that!

Anyway, there are very few (ok, one) photos of the food because the lighting in the restaurant was terrible, all yellow and stuff, all our food looked like new born jaundiced babies in the photos.

We had 1. peking duck rolls (?) 2. peking duck vermicelli 3. this roast pork belly they were famous for 4. really yummy egg+veggie thingy! 5.desert: her mango pudding and my durian ice cream mango puree thing which was delightful.

Preferred dian xiao er actually, but i suspect we might have concluded differently if we had been there in the afternoon for the dim sum. Us girls, we’re suckers for dim sum.

lean back, take a breather, sprawl out into the expanse of time. my own lack of worry and panic stirs up vague feelings of concern, but they’re hidden behind fog and glass.

the thing i love most about recess week although we’re only two days in:
the nonconformity of time, bending and twisting like clingwrap to class schedules. tried to think of an appropriate word for this but the only thing i could offer up was a satisfied meow.

Mayakovsky by Frank O’Hara

Now I am quietly waiting for
the catastrophe of my personality
to seem beautiful again,
and interesting, and modern.

The country is grey and
brown and white in trees,
snows and skies of laughter
always diminishing, less funny
not just darker, not just grey.

It may be the coldest day of
the year, what does he think of
that? I mean, what do I? And if I do,
perhaps I am myself again.
